Programs

Our Special Programs

Visual Arts

Meeniyan Primary School offers a Visual Arts program that develops students’ skills, techniques, understandings and provides opportunities to express their thoughts and feelings.
The school also participates in many artistic events in South Gippsland.

School Production

Each year the school works together to present a school production to the school community at the Meeniyan Town Hall.

Chaplaincy

Marina Gardner  is our School Chaplain. Marina works with staff and students to support and extend  our Student Wellbeing program, develop student leadership, expand community connections and provide family support. This project was funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations under the National School Chaplaincy Program.

Kitchen Garden

Our school has a kitchen garden that promotes healthy eating attitudes, exposure to new tastes and a sense of community and sharing. The planting, care, harvesting and cooking are overseen by staff members.
We are currently endeavouring to connect the garden to the community through interested volunteers. Students look forward each year to the apple harvest, the corn fiesta and other culinary delights that celebrate their efforts in the garden.

School Camps

The school camping program is as follows:

Sports

Our school sports houses are Blue Gum (Blue), Waratah (Red) and Wattle (Yellow).

Each year, Meeniyan Primary School holds a house competition sports day known as Stuart’s Cup. All children in  Prep to Year 6 compete in their age groups in a variety of track and field events. A trophy is awarded to the winning house.

Our school is part of the Corner Inlet District along with Fish Creek, Foster, Welshpool, Toora and Tarwin Lower Primary schools.  Each year children compete in their age groups in the Corner Inlet District Sports Day held at the Foster Secondary College, Foster.

Children 9 years and over who perform well at the Corner Inlet 3-6  Athletics are invited to compete at the Inter-School Athletics Carnival at Leongatha Velodrome.

Children in age groups 9 and above attend trials at the Korumburra pool. Those successful at these trials will be part of the Corner Inlet District Swim Team for the Division Swimming Carnival held at Korumburra Pool in Term 1.

Years P-6  students are involved in a swimming program each year at the SPLASH centre in Leongatha.

During Term 3, together with Fish Creek & Tarwin Lower, we run a winter sport program.  Combined teams play a variety of team sports which may include football, soccer and netball.

Transition

Kindergarten to Prep

The school has a comprehensive Kinder to Prep program that starts in Term to remain consistent and supports students in the transition into primary school. The details are posted at the Meeniyan Preschool and sent to surrounding kindergartens and day care centres. Parents are welcome to contact the school for the information or meet with the Principal to discuss any aspects of the school.
